Larry Hagman's Autobiography

I gave Justin Larry Hagman's Autobiography as a Christmas present......he read it so quick that he told me I needed to read it, so I'm reading it now. I'm about a 3rd of the way through it, it's a quick read, and I gotta tell you, it's great!

I think we pretty much reached a consensus that we are going to cover this book at some point in the podcast. Something about the most famous character's actor writing about himself begs to be talked about in the podcast.

We'll probably write a book review as well to post on the main website.

Remember, we'll be back with new podcasts sometime around 14 January. I know this is a long wait, but we've got holiday vacations to go on yet.

Podcast # 5: Barbeque has been uploaded

Episode 5, the final episode of the mini-series, has been uploaded.

For this episode, we basically decided to just focus on the episode. In our opinion, this episode really sets up the entire series that followed. I attempted some audio wizardry (or not) and tried to do this commentary style and talk during the clips...not sure how well it worked, but we did it. Consequently, this is the shortest episode we've ever done. I know some people wanted it shorter, but I think we may have gone too far now....but this is stuff we can always tweak.

Episode 5 covers the origin of the Barnes-Ewing feud, the heir issue between JR and Bobby, JR and Sue Ellen's love/hate relationship, and the family issue of staying together on the ranch.....all very basic issues that permeate throughout the Dallas's 13 seasons.

To download, you can search the iTunes Music Store podcasts for "Dissecting Dallas" Subscribe, and you won't have to wonder if there are downloads, all you'll have to do is press "refresh"

1000 downloads!!!!!

We reached a milestone yesterday.

The Dissecting Dallas Podcast has officially been downloaded 1000 times. This is the greatest news we could hope for. We would like to thank everyone for their support, and we look forward to starting in on Season 1 in the new year. As we have discussed in the podcast, we will begin to go over more than one episode at a time.....more of a story arc review.

This new year can only get bigger, and we appreciate everyone who downloads.

DVD screen captures

For every episode we do podcasts on, I will upload screenshots from the DVD onto the Dissecting Dallas account at Photobucket.

To access them, go here to the DVD screen captures photobucket page

This should be a growing file week by week.

Look at things to come

We were looking at doing episode 4 this weekend. We generally feel that this episode, winds of vengeance, is one of the weaker episodes. Since this is the case, we decided to take this opportunity to look at the parallels between Dallas and the 1956 movie Giant.

We're basically going to cut all the regular stuff, and just go with the Giant/Dallas parallels, then a short episode commentary for the 4th episode in the series.

Hit us back with an email at dissectingdallas@gmail.com if you have anything you would like talked about.

Episode 2: Lessons has been posted

We've posted Episode 2, and without tooting our own horn a little, we think it turned out great.

In this episode we talk a little about the DVDs. I LOVE having DVDs, I just wish they weren't flipper discs, I hate those!

We talk a little about this Dallas movie being a comedy thing, and how incredibly wrong that is. If anyone knows what kind of focus group came up with the comedy idea, let us know because we think that's a bunch of hooey.

We also added something we are really proud of. We call it "Money, Money, Money". In this section we talk about the value of Ewing Enterprises; Southfork cattle and Ranch and Ewing Oil respectively. We go over inflation rates and tell you the value in 1978...and what that would be today....that's U.S. dollars for you other nationals out there...you're going to have to do the math for your country :-)

We talk about John Ross, and discuss whether or not he would end up running Ewing Oil when he got older, and a little about my trip to Southfork.

Here are some links from the show today:

Here is a picture of the writer of the episode Lessons, Virginia Aldridge, when she played Lt Karen Tracy on an Original Series episode of Star Trek: Wolf in the fold:

The podcast is now on iTunes, but for some reason I can't search for it. If you have iTunes open, click on this link in your browser, and it makes iTunes go to the podcast page:

Podcast episode 2 coming sooner than expected!

All right I just got with my friend Justin. Due to the enormous response we got, we're going to record the next podcast tomorrow. We'll be going over the 2nd episode Lessons.

I have some ideas for the podcast, and I would appreciate feedback, positive or negative, being in it's infancy it can always stand some improvement.

For continuing podcast sections

1. Total estimated value of Ewing Oil (Ewing Enterprises) at the beginning of the episode

2. Character profiles - (choose one character at random and talk about their motivations

3. Future speculation - if the characters had continued passed War of the Ewings, where might they be, and what might they be doing now.

4. Recent Dallas news

For the next podcast:

1. Commentary on "Lessons"

2. Talk about my trip to Southfork Ranch

3. The cars of Southfork - (what each character drove, and how that spoke to the character themselves.)

If anyone would like to send us a clip, shout out, or whatever via mp3 that we can weave into the show, email it to us at dissectingdallas@gmail.com. Hit us up if you have any ideas to make it better too.

I have a rumor in hand that this podcast may soon be featured on Ultimate Dallas, so that's something we can all look forward to. Don't know if I can take this kinda pressure!

I have put it in iTunes, but that will take a few days. I will post on blog when that's complete. I am working hard to get the main page up as well. Just give me a little more time.

In this podcast Justin and Bradley discuss the first episode of the series, Digger's Daughter.

Please note, that this is the only Dallas podcast that we are aware of, and it's a long time coming.
